Canon Powershot A800:Get Started in Digital Photography

Introduction:
The cannon powershot a800 price in India is only around Rs. 4000 and it has a modest 3x zoom, primitive by today’s standards when 10x seems to be the norm and whopping 40x is considered acceptable. However photography is not about zooms or price. It is about capturing images using your inner eye; it is about capturing telling moments that are memorable for life. You need not splurge on an SLR costing Rs. 100000 or more or even the state of art large sensor digital compacts promising ultrafine detail.

Specification:
The cannon powershot a800 is modestly specced at 3x optical zoom with a 10 mp sensor. It has shutter speeds of 1 to 1/2000 sec and aperture of F 2.8-5.9. There is the usual display screen at the back with the usual buttons. A small flash helps capture images in low light conditions. In all it is a satisfactory solution if you want a simple camera to record images and videos. After all it is memory that counts; you do not need to take prize winning pictures.
This cannon digital camera is also a great way to get your children or yourself started in digital photography. With minimum zoom and controls, you can focus on photography and capturing images rather than fiddling with controls and letting the moment pass. Who cares if a photo has finest resolution and is perfectly captured if it does not have a story to tell?

Light as we perceive it and as the cameras perceive it can be quite different. You can only know if you start to take photograph in different conditions. Photograph a sunset, a crowded, colorful market place, a celebration or a portrait, varying the settings such as ISO and exposure values to know how a little underexposure can give rich, vividly saturated images or overexpose a bit to understand the effect.

You learn to let the creative side of you come out and explore all possibilities to the full when you have a basic camera. You can understand the triangular relationship between ISO settings, aperture and shutter speed and how these can give you sharply frozen images of high speed action or capture the action in smears for quite another effect. Use the monochrome mode to capture emotions in plain black and white with varying shades of grey or even sepia mode for a period look. When they look at the images, people will talk of its quality not how expensive the camera is that captured the image.

Conclusion:
A camera this basic has its limitations but then it also encourages you to learn workarounds and use the facilities to greater effect. If you can get good performance from the cannon powershot a800 you are ready to move to the next level but will you want to? A DSLR is obviously the next step up but it is large, expensive, and heavy and needs a set of lenses. This compact sits lightly in your pockets and if you know how to use it, the results can be surprisingly good to excellent.
